Bellator 124: Newton Set To Defend Light Heavyweight Title

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion Emanuel Newton (23-7) defends his title against Joey Beltran (15-10) at Bellator 124 on Friday night in Plymouth, Michigan. Bellator 124 will feature nine fights across various divisions with the light heavyweight tournament final between Liam McGeary (8-0) and Kelly Anundson (9-2).
Newton looks to win his sixth straight fight with his last three wins coming by decisions. His streak began with a second round rear naked choke submission of Atanas Djambazov at Bellator 85. Newton faces Beltran who won his last fight at Bellator 116 with a third round north-south choke over Vladmir Matyushenko after a first round stoppage loss at Bellator 108 against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
McGeary is unbeaten and on an eight-fight winning streak with his last five fights being first round finishes, two by knockout, two by stoppage and one by an armbar submission. His opponent is Anundson who is coming off a win over Phelipe Lins at Bellator 122 by a stoppage due to a knee injury.
Bantamweights square off as Zeilton Rodrigues (12-3) meets LC Davis (21-6). Rodrigues is making his Bellator debut while Davis is coming off a win at Bellator 113 by a first round guillotine choke. The a lightweight bout to finish off the main card as Ryan Couture (8-3) faces John Schulz (4-1) as both fighters make their Bellator debuts.
Welterweights end the Prelims as Sabah Homasi (7-4) fights Ben Lagman (6-3) which will be preceded by a lightweight bout between flyweights Cortez Phelia (0-1) and Eric Ramirez (1-0). Middleweight Ben Reiter (14-0-1) takes on light heavyweight Shamil Garcia (5-0). Fans will be treated to a heavyweight fight between Adrian Henderson (5-0) and Leroy Johnson (2-0) after the opening bout of the night that features a welterweight fight between Mike Hernandez (3-0) and Thomas Vasquez (7-1).
The Prelims start at 5:45 PM central on Spike and the Main Card starts at 8:00 PM, also on Spike.
