Bellator 126: Shlemenko, Halsey Fight For Middleweight Title

alexander-shlemenkoPHOENIX, Ariz. – Bellator 126 main event features a title fight as Bellator Middleweight Champion Alexander Shlemenko (50-8) defends his title against undefeated fighter Brandon Halsey (7-0) on Friday night. Shlemenko lost his last fight to Tito Ortiz after going up a weight class to fight Ortiz at light heavyweight.

Otherwise the champion has eight straight wins against middleweight competition, finishing all but three, including his last two. Shlemenko defeated Brennan Ward (9-3) with a second round guillotine choke submission at Bellator 114 after knocking out Doug Marshall (18-8) in the first round with a body punch at Bellator 109. Halsey looks to take the title and stay unbeaten having won his last fight with an armbar submission in the first round at Bellator 122 over Brett Cooper (20-10).

Patricky Pitbull (13-5) will take on Marcin Held (19-3) in a lightweight bout that matches fighters riding out winning streaks in the cage. Pitbull has won three straight fights, finishing the last two in the second round while Held has won four in a row, all with finishes. Pitbull’s last fight was at Bellator 117 in which he forced a stoppage against Derek Campos (14-4). Held defeated Nate Jolly with a first round armbar submission at Bellator PPV.

Bubba Jenkins (7-1) puts his three fight win streak on the line in a featherweight fight against Thiago Meller (19-5) who has a five fight winning streak of his own. Jenkins is coming off a first round stoppage win over Poppies Martinez at Bellator 122 while Meller’s last fight was a first round stoppage against Gary Copeland at XFCI 1 in February.

Featherweight Mike Richman (16-5) looks to halt his two fight losing streak against bantamweight Ed West (18-8) who seeks a two-fight winning streak after beating Josh Montoya with a knockout in the second round at Bellator 91 with a head kick. Richman has lost back-to-back fights by unanimous decision.
