UFC Fight Night 52 Features Contenders Hunt, Nelson, Tate

SAITAMA, Japan – UFC Fight Night 52 is headlined by a heavyweight fight pitting No. 6 contender Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt (9-8-1) against No. 8 contender “Big Country” Roy Nelson (21-9) along with five other main card fights. No. 9 lightweight contender Miles “Fury” Jury (14-0), No. 2 women’s bantamweight contender Miesha “Cupcake” Tate (14-5) and No. 14 flyweight contender Kyoji Horiguchi (13-1) are all facing tough opponents in main card action on Saturday.
Hunt and Nelson square off in the main event with the “Super Samoan” coming off the best fight of his career in a bloody five-round draw against No. 9 contender Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (18-6, 1 NC) at a UFC Fight Night in December. Nelson’s last fight ended in a knockout of UFC veteran and No. 15 contender Minotauro Nogueira (34-9-1, 1 NC) in the first round at a UFC Fight Night in April.
In a lightweight bout, Jury looks to continue his five-fight winning streak and remain unbeaten in Ultimate Fighting Championship competition and will take on Takanori “The Fireball Kid” Gomi (35-9, 1 NC) who is looking to win his second straight fight. Jury defeated Diego “The Nightmare” Sanchez (27-7) by a unanimous decision at UFC 171 while Gomi took down Isaac Vallie-Flagg (14-5-1) by a unanimous decision at UFC 172.
Welterweight Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama (13-5, 2 NC) will try to snap a four-fight losing streak against former The Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah (7-4) who wants back in the win column. Akiyama fell to Jake Shields (29-7-1, 1 NC) by a unanimous decision at UFC 144 while lost by unanimous decision to Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy (25-10, 1 NC) at UFC on Fuel TV 5. Both fighters have been out of the octagon since 2012.
Tate looks to ruin the UFC debut for Rin Nakai (16-0-1) in a women’s bantamweight matchup. Tate is the only fighter to take UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (10-0) the distance, losing by unanimous decision at UFC 168, but rebounded to defeat Liz Carmouche (8-5) by a unanimous decision at FOX UFC Saturday in April.
Kilchi “Strasser” Kunimoto (17-5-2, 1 NC) takes on Richard “Filthy” Walsh (8-1) in a lightweight fight as both fighters attempt to stay unbeaten at in UFC competition. Kunimoto is on a two-fight winning streak having submitted Daniel Sarafian in the first round at UFC 174 while Walsh won his UFC debut at TUF Nations Finale by a unanimous decision over Chris Walsh in April.
Horiguchi goes for his third straight win in a featherweight bout with Jon Delos “The Heat” Reyes (7-3) who is looking for his first UFC win. Horiguchi defeated Darrell Montague (13-4) by a unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night in May while Reyes dropped his UFC debut to Dustin “The Diamond” Kimura (12-2) by a first round submission at a UFC Fight Night in January.
