- Updated: October 6, 2014
No. 2 ranked welterweight contender Rory MacDonald didn’t just make a statement becoming the first man to stop Tarec Saffiedine but also won a performance bonus for his effort at UFC Fight Night Halifax. The Ultimate Fighting Championship awards $50,000 to each fighter for outstanding performances in their weekend events.
In the main event, MacDonald caught Saffiedine with a left uppercut that sent him to the “Sponge” to the mat where “Ares” finished him with a series of punches to take the fight and the bonus.
Olivier Aubin-Mercier netted the other performance bonus that came from Halifax with his win in the FoxSports1 Prelims over Jake Lindsey. Aubin-Mercier was leading in the fight when he scored a second round takedown that led to inverted triangle choke submission that gave “The Librarian” no choice but to tap.
The Fight of the Night in Halifax went to the battle that occurred between Chris Kelades and Patrick Holohan. Kelades stepped in for the bout on five days’ notice and took the unanimous decision win in an impressive fight that went the distance. Kelades dropped the first round but rebounded, with the help of the hometown crowd, to take the second and third for the win.
The theme seemed to run around the world as well as the Fight of the Night bonus for UFC Fight Night Stockholm went to another fight that went the distance between Dennis Siver and Charles Rosa. Rosa took the fight on a week’s notice and was making his UFC debut in the fight. However, it would be Siver who would get the win by decision on the night.
Max “Blessed” Hollaway took home a performance bonus in his fight win by stoppage over Akira Corassani. Hollaway landed a hard right hand that put Corassani on the canvas where a flurry of strikes brought the fight to an end.
Mike Wilkinson snagged the other performance bonus in his knockout win over Niklas Backstrom. Wilkinson collapsed Backstrom with a right hand that sent him to the floor and ended the fight.
