UFC Womens Champ Rousey Wants Correia Fight In Brazil

Ronda-Jean-Rousey UFCBRASILIA, Brazil – UFC women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (10-0) told the media in Brazil that she wants a fight with Brazilian Bethe “Pitbull” Correia (9-0) and she would like for the fight to happen in Brazil. Correia’s recent success against the self-proclaimed “Four Horsewomen” have sparked a feud between the two and have set up the possibility of a fight in the future.

Corriea defeated the first of the “Four Horsewomen” when she beat Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke (3-2, 1 NC) at UFC 172 by a unanimous decision in which she out-struck her opponent by 37 strikes. Next, the Brazilian took down Shayna “The Queen of Spades” Bazler (15-9) in a second round stoppage at UFC 177 in August.

Immediately following Correia’s win over Bazler, Rousey texted Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White to let him know she wanted to fight Correia and wanted the opportunity to beat her before anyone else had a chance. However, White reminded her then that they both have other fights before the match can happen.

“I think it’s very smart what she’s doing. She’s not going to get away with it, but it’s very intelligent,” said the champion, “I definitely think she’s ready to challenge me. I think she’s one of the best in the division. She’s a top contender, and as soon as Dana (White) thinks it’s her time, I’m ready to fight her.”

Rousey is unbeaten as a fighter and has yet to allow a fight to get to the judges with five straight first round submissions and two first round stoppages to her credit. The only fighter in UFC that lasted more than a round with the champ was Miesha “Cupcake” Tate (14-5) who was victim of a third round submission and will fight in UFC Fight Night 52 on Saturday against Rin Nakai (16-0-1) in Nakai’s UFC debut.

“I’m the champ. I’m supposed to fight anyone at any time, and I’m waiting for who steps up…I want to fight,” said Rousey, “I want to fight Bethe. I want to fight Bethe in Brazil actually. I think it would be an amazing event and I’d love to be a part of it.”
